In response to the idea of "Setting Place," I created a portable ritual for self care. To do this, I made a shawl out of unbelievably soft herringbone cotton. I then bleach dyed the back and front using a piece of fabric I crocheted to create a dreamlike shadow. To me, crochet is a meditative practice, so I also incorporated this technique into a holder for the glass bottle, and a stamp for the place mat at the bottom of the tray. In addition, I included more cathartic objects, loose yarn and hand-harvested kudzu kept in a handmade bowl.
By setting this place for the christening of my self-care shawl, I created an environment that can be recalled and carried with me as I travel through my days and environments, and work to maintain a strong sense of self and center for power.
